A teacher-led childcare team
based in a beautiful home setting in woodland

About Puddle Lane

A nursery-like setting with all the advantages of home.

Smaller than a nursery, but larger than most childminding settings, Puddle Lane focusses on quality. We follow a Forest school and Reggio Emilia approach to Early Years Education and are run by highly qualified teachers, and a hand-picked team with a wealth of experience. Puddle Lane is surrounded by and overlooks SSSI protected habitats of heathland and woodland.

What parents say...

"Puddle Lane is by far the best decision we have made for G in her life so far. We adore it. We adore the staff, the setting and all that she experiences there. We feel incredibly grateful to Helen and her staff for giving our daughter the very best start in life - one that is so rich and full of life and one that allows her to grow and develop in so many different ways. We could not ask for any more or anything better in a preschool/nursery setting."

Lizzie and Tom (2021)

"Wow, L has really thrived so much in your team’s care! Thank you for all your amazing hard work and excellent teaching, Your love for L helped heal my heart and I am thankful for you."

Richard and Fiona (2020)

"Our son has thrived more than we could have ever hoped in her care. Helen is vivacious, generous, thoughtful and a truly inspiring. The children experience so much; from going to the woods daily (rain or shine), homing lambs in her “stable” for the children to feed and incubating eggs into chicks. She has taught them skills that will last a lifetime such as reading, a taste for the outdoors and adventure, and has helped our son develop long lasting friendships. She puts 110% into everything she does. She has never had a day off sick. We cannot thank her enough for her love, support and altogether priceless care she has given our boy. Our true childcare hero!!"

Greg and Louise (2019)

"E has experienced another year of singing, storytelling, adventure and so much more. What you invest of yourself for children is unbelievable and amazing. "

Michael and Clem (2018)

"What can we say but thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Helen took our nervous boy and turned him into a much happier, tune humming, song singing one."

Adam and Hannah (2017)

"Thankyou so much for all the care and attention you give to my daughter, you make learning fun and educational. Most importantly A loves going, she has the biggest smile on her face when I say it’s time, which says it all for me. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Helen and her team to care for your most precious bundle!"

Steve and Sarah ( 2016)

What is Reggio Emilia?

As a Reggio influenced setting, we use a child’s curiosity, and interests as a starting point for creating invitations to play, and enquiry led learning. Children and adults learn and discover together, and we observe and document a child’s stepping stones through their actions or voiced ideas.

As a team, we think about the way we use the environment as a provocation for learning

What is Forest School?

Originating in Denmark, Udeskole – literally meaning ‘outdoor school’, has made an important contribution to the development of ideas about the holistic nature of children’s learning.

Children who have attended Forest school in their early years have been found to have well developed social communication skills, the ability to work in groups effectively, be willing to try new things, and have confidence and self-esteem.
We run forest school sessions daily in a dedicated private woodland area, which we walk to from the cottage.
